Course
Description
This class is a survey of Classical Greek and
Roman civilization from the rise of the Minoan civilization around 1600BC
to the collapse of the Roman Empire in the fifth century AD. The course
will provide the student with knowledge of not only political events, but
will also explore issues of economics, culture, society, literature and
art. Through papers and assignments students will have the opportunity
to do more in-depth study of specific areas in which they are interested.

Objectives
1. To provide the student with a basic understanding
of the history and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome.
2. To explore the challenges and difficulties facing the historian in attempting to piece together this very complex period of history.
3. To encourage students to improve their academic skills in the areas of critical analysis, writing, oral communication and organization.
